Jan Verbeek och Jorg van der Breggen som jobbar inom forskning och spelar/tränarutveckling för det holländska fotbollsförbundet gjorde ett studiebesök som varade i tre dagar. De pratade med ledare från klubben, vår forskning och utvecklingsavdelning samt som de besökte vår extraträning och akademiträning. Vi har fått intervjua båda herrarna om deras besök hos oss.

Varför besökte ni AIK?
– I Holland är vi också oroade över den så kallade race to the bottom (tidigare och tidigare selektering) som för närvarande pågår i ungdomsfotbollen. Vi läser om hur AIK försöker komma med alternativa sätt att motverka “race to the bottom” (tidig selektering). Vi tycker att detta är ganska innovativt och var verkligen angelägna om att ta reda på hur AIK satte sina idéer i bruk.

Ni fokuserade på 8-12-åringarna, varför?
– Detta är den viktigaste åldern för barn att bli motiverade inom sport och inte bara fotboll. Vi vill att de ska utvecklas till aktiva och hälsosamma ungdomar, så vi måste se till att de egentligen är motiverade för att spela fotboll. En miljö där detta sker har ett stort inflytande. Därför vill vi se till att det här är en hälsosam och säker miljö där barn har rätt att utvecklas till de människor de vill vara. AIK har verkligen lagt barnens välbefinnande i första hand i sin vision för sin ungdomsverksamhet.

Ni deltog under ett av våra extraträningspass, vad är era intryck från det passet?
– Du kan verkligen se att övningsdesign är utformade kring några bra pedagogiska principer. Baserat på det arbetet AIK:s forsknings- och utvecklingsavdelning har gjort. Man ser även att AIK har reviderat hur träning ska struktureras. Varje träningspass är utformad med barnet i centrum. Alla var välkomna att delta, vilket gör träningen till en mycket inkluderande och säker miljö för barn. Det faktum att även föräldrar var involverade under träning var också intressant.

Hur var er övergripande upplevelse hos oss?
– Den var bra. Vi fick en riktig unik inblick i de dagliga processerna i AIK:s ungdomsverksamhet. Vi diskuterade filosofin om de principer som AIK använder och såg dem sedan i praktiken. Därefter hade vi ett intressant inslag i svensk fotbolls- och sportkultur. Det är alltid bra att använda detta internationella perspektiv i vårt eget arbete hos det Holländska fotbollsförbundet.

Jan Verbeek and Jorg van der Breggen who works for the Dutch FA visited us during three days last week. They spoke to coaches from the club and with staff from our reaserch and development department. They did also visit one of our extra trainingsessions. We have been able to interview the regarding their visit.

Why did you visit AIK?
-In Holland, we are also concerned with the so-called race to the bottom which is currently going on in youth football. We read about how AIK is trying to come up with alternative ways to battle this race to the bottom. We think this is quite innovative and were really eager to find out how AIK put their ideas into practice.

You focused on the 8-12 year olds, why?
-This is the most important age for children to get motivated about sports. Not just football. We want them to develop into active and healthy adolescences so we need to make sure they are intrinsically motivated to play football. The environment in which this takes place has a great influence on this; therefore we make sure this is a healthy and safe environment in which children get the right to develop into the human beings they want to be. AIK has really put the children’s wellbeing at the first place in their vision for their youth academy.

You participated during one of our extra training sessions, whats your impression from that session?
-You could really tell the training sessions where designed around some sound pedagogical principles. Based on the work the R&D department of AIK has been doing they revisited the way training sessions are structured. Every session is designed with the child centered. Everybody was welcome to participate, which makes AIK an very inclusive and safe environment for children. The fact that also parents were involved during the training sessions was really interesting as well.

How was your overall experience with us?
-It was great. We had an really unique insight into the daily processes at the AIK youth academy. We got to discuss the philosophy regarding the principles AIK uses and afterwards saw them put into practice. Next to that, we had an interesting look into Swedish football and sporting culture. It is always good to use these international perspective in our own work at the Dutch FA.
